A couple of weeks ago, if you’d asked me how to create momentum, I might have given you a puzzled look. I knew what momentum felt like, but I wasn’t quite sure how to make it happen—on purpose.
I have a coach who’s helping me build a business around my passion: helping people become emotionally resilient. Because here’s what I believe—emotional resilience makes you fearless. When you have it, you’re unafraid of what might or might not happen in life. You can face anything, walk through anything, and come out stronger on the other side.
One day, my coach sent me a simple email:
“Hey Jenny, how’s the momentum?”
My honest thought? It’s not. I couldn’t measure anything that looked or felt like momentum, so I set that email aside until I had a real answer.
Then, something happened…
Last Thursday night, my daughter-in-law and I went downtown to an art show called Sip and Stroll. We sipped. We strolled. And then—there was a spark.
We met an artist named Maggie. She walked us through her work, telling us the stories behind each piece. We asked questions, gathered little details, and kept leaning in until there was another spark—this time from a painting.
It was clouds floating over a sea of black-eyed Susans, and it instantly reminded me of Joni Mitchell’s song “Both Sides Now.” Maggie was too young to know it, so I mentioned the Sara Bareilles/Josh Groban duet version. Before long, we had the whole shop on their phones trying to find the song.
Just as I was about to leave, I told Maggie I’d pray about the painting. And then—right on cue—Both Sides Now started playing over the loudspeakers. The shop erupted in singing, laughing, dancing… and right there in the middle of it all, I felt it.
That was my moment.
I turned to Maggie and said, “I’ll take it!”
We squealed, we took pictures, and as I walked out the door, I realized something:
I had momentum.
And here’s the best part: I know how to share it.
No painting purchase necessary. Here’s the simple 4-step formula I discovered:
-
Move in the direction you want to go—just start.
-
Connect when you feel a spark—lean in, ask questions, stay curious.
-
Pray over that spark—look for guidance, clarity, and confirmation.
-
Press On—whether the spark reignites or not, keep going.
That’s it. Simple, repeatable, and powerful.
Momentum isn’t magic—it’s movement, connection, and action working together. And the best part? You can start building it today.
You’ve got this.
